My heart was full of sadness. My friend, not consciously knowing about my grief, gave me something rare that same day. As I opened my tack trunk, I noticed she had placed a bit of the natural world within it. Looking more closely; I saw a vulnerable, circular form nestled within a dark corner for protection. I gazed upon it, recognized it as a nest made of horsehair and felt clearly seen and deeply understood.
I picked up the treasure and laid it in my palm. My friend had touched the tender place of spirit in me, where our hearts are one. My heart cracked open and I began to cry. Taking the delicate gift into my palm in, I saw a rainbow of colors – made by  collecting and weaving together hair from the tails of all the horses at her barn. I carried the nest outside and laid it down to rest on Mother Earth. Bathing in the beauty of this gift from: my friend, the birds, horses, and sun’s warming energy, I wept until tears no longer flowed and my face formed a loving smile.
